When you hire a carpet cleaner to come into your home, you shouldn’t have to worry about being “up-sold” or ripped off.
You shouldn’t have to say “I do not want Scotch Guard, I do not want extra cleaner, I do not need any extra areas cleaned. I called about the ‘special’ for XYZ dollars and that’s all I want done.”
Chances are you are very budget minded and probably scheduled your carpet cleaning appointment based on price alone. Making a decision for a service for you home based solely on price alone is not a wise decision, but most people don’t often realize the difference in the different types of services. If you fall into this category, and you are NOT concerned about the service that is being performed and you are going with “the lowest bidder,” then don’t expect much of a service. The old saying certainly holds true, “you get what you pay for.”
One of things you CAN do to prevent being ripped off . The first thing you should do when a carpet cleaning, or any professional service for that matter, arrive at your home is walk them through your home and show them what you want done. Explain to them that you were quoted XYZ dollars over the phone and you are going to make out the check BEFORE they start. This is the best way to try and prevent them from charging you more for any number of reasons. But do be aware that a lot of workers that show up to your home are often paid on what they can “sell” once they get to your home so they have a HUGE incentive to try and get more money out of you. At CitruSolution Carpet Cleaning we often tell our potential clients after we have explained our exclusive process is “You can make out the check BEFORE we get there.” We do not charge extra for spots, stains, wool, Berber. There is no trip charge, no fuel charge, no hidden fees or charges, EVER.
Just be aware and do your research. Do what you can to protect yourself. It will pay for itself in the long run.
