If you get an estimate from another carpet cleaner ask them if you can pre-pay. Most carpet cleaners won’t let you pre-pay. The other thing you can do is ask, “Can I make out the check before you get here?” and wait for a response.
You could also try when they arrive say, “I was quoted ________ so I already made out the check.” The PROBLEM with this is if they change the price, which is likely, and you decide you’re not “going for” the bait and switch, they may pressure you into paying because they’re already there.
